Gloria Namanya has more than three years of experience in data science research. Currently, she is a research-driven software engineer at the Makerere AI lab, where she focuses on data science, machine learning and statistics for social good. She also works as an organizer and volunteer for various groups including Women in Machine Learning, Deep Learning Indaba, Black in AI and Data Science Africa. These professional bodies provide her with the perfect platform to attract more girls and women into technology. Gloria holds a bachelor's degree in software engineering. She is passionate about the effective use of computing, big data, and machine learning to develop data-driven artificial intelligence systems that solve real-world problems. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, Gloria plans to pursue a master's in computer science with a concentration in artificial intelligence and data science. She also intends to continue with her research work at the Makerere AI lab to have a greater and direct influence on national policy decisions using her acquired skills in machine learning, computer vision and predictive analytics.
