Marilyn Azumah has more than six years of experience as a nurse. She is currently senior nursing officer and deputy head of unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. She is a nurse preceptor, serving as the secretary to the nurse manager in her department. Managing more than 20 staff members and coordinating with other health professionals enables her to provide the best quality of care to her patients, ensuring an efficient running of the unit. At the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Marilyn volunteered to be part of the hospital's response team for managing COVID-19 cases and providing psychological support for patients, relatives and staff members. Marilyn holds a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and is pursuing a Master of Public Health in health service planning and management. After completing the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders, she plans to grow her grassroots educational program about hypertension into a foundation that provides healthcare to the less privileged. She aspires to create a robust communication network between local hospitals to ensure an efficient referral system. This system will use Ghana's growing telemedicine space to ensure that patients continue to receive quality care after leaving the hospital.
