Program: Sustainable agricultural education and food security in indigenous and Afro-Brazilian communities.

Rosani Matoso Silva is a scientific researcher and an activist advocating for Black and Indigenous leadership in the fields of science and technology (S&T). She earned her master's degree in 2011 and completed her Ph.D. in Animal Science in 2013, with an emphasis on alternative feed options for livestock. With over 15 years of academic experience in agricultural and animal sciences, Rosani currently serves as the director and co-founder of the Mancala Institute. She coordinates research projects in S&T aimed at developing technological solutions to address social and racial disparities throughout Brazil. 

As a Humphrey Fellow for 2023-24, her interests include leadership development, networking, and negotiation skills. She is dedicated to researching innovative methods for monitoring food insecurity effectively. Looking ahead, Rosani plans to establish an agricultural training center that fosters a collaborative ecosystem involving community members, schools, teachers, suppliers and service providers. Her aim is to cultivate an environment of mutual support that works toward achieving both food security and sovereignty for vulnerable communities in Brazil.
